The challenge

After the relationship ended, the other parent refused all contact and raised allegations of controlling and abusive behaviour. These claims led to police involvement and delayed progress through the family court.

This meant that a relationship between parent and child had little chance to develop without court intervention.

The SKB Way

We focused on evidence, process and the child’s best interests. We:

  • Reviewed the allegations carefully and responded where they were unsupported
  • Ensured the proper safeguarding steps were followed
  • Kept the court’s focus on what arrangements would best support the child
  • Pushed for contact to start as early as possible

As the case progressed, the court identified problems with the allegations being made.

Outcome

  • Regular, meaningful contact was ordered at an early stage
  • The court moved towards a shared care arrangement
  • A long-term plan was put in place for the child to have a relationship with both parents

What this case shows

  • Allegations can be tested fairly through the court process
  • Courts aim to support a child’s relationship with both parents
  • Early legal advice can change the direction of a case
